Archbishop’s Cellars

Beneath the palace are the vast wine cellars founded in 1266 by Olomouc Bishop Bruno of Schauenburg. The cellars were granted the privilege to produce sacramental wine by King Charles IV in 1355. Situated at a depth of 6.5 m, the cellars have a constant temperature of 9-11 °C year-round, which are ideal conditions for producing high-quality and purely natural sacramental wine. The wine is aged in old wooden barrels, the largest of which can hold more than 19,000 litres (the third largest barrel in Moravia). All of the local wine is available for tasting and purchase in the wine shop located in the cellars.
